Bigg’s Killer Whale
This afternoon we had an amazing encounter with a large Bigg’s Killer whale that was traveling westwards at Oak Bay Flats.
This individual belongs to the marine-mammal eating ecotype. He is an adult male, as evident from his 5-6 feet tall dorsal fin. He was born in 1992, which makes him 26 years old this year! He is easily identifiable from his distinct notch about part way down from the top of his dorsal fin.
To top it all off, we also got to see harbour seals, Steller sea lions, and a bald eagle on our trip. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water.
