Bigg’s Killer Whales
We headed into the Haro Strait for our trip today and found Bigg’s Killer whales just north of Waldron Island.
We got to enjoy the scenic route up there as we drove past multiple U.S. Gulf islands. We went past San Juan Island, Henry Island, Battleship Island, Spieden Island, and eventually ended up in Boundary Passage where we found the group of Killer whales.
Bigg’s Killer whales are marine mammal eaters; harbour seals, sea lions, harbour porpoise, and even other whales are on their menu. During our encounter today, we even saw some calves in the group, which was a delight to see.
On our way back, we stopped by Spieden Island and got to see mouflon sheep grazing on the grasslands. Steller sea lions were also sunbathing at Green Point rocks today. Not only that, we were also able to show them harbour seals at Chain Islets.
