Resident Orcas this morning
We spent this morning with Jpod off San Juan Island and it was great to see them again. Due to a lack of Chinook Salmon in the Salish Sea, we have had very few encounters with Resident Orcas this season. So this made this mornings encounter even more special! Chinook Salmon is the preferred prey of Resident Killer Whales and accounts for 70 plus % of the food they eat. Unfortunately, Chinook Salmon stocks in the Salish Sea have been on a drastic decline for many years and it is getting harder for the Whales to find enough food!
