Oct 27th 2017 – California Transient Orcas & Humpback Whales

Killer Whales & Humpbacks Whales

Killer Whales & Humpback Whales

Today we encountered California Transient Orcas and Humpbacks Whales! The Orcas were south east of Sooke swiftly heading east and we got to see some incredible porpoising (high speed swimming). The Orcas were split into two or three different groups, stretched across the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Watching these magnificent predators blast through the water with ease is always amazing. We left the Orcas as they reached Sooke, still heading west.

Near Race Rocks we encountered a number of Humpbacks including one actively lunge feeding. Race Rocks was full of Seals, Sea Lions and Bald Eagles today! It was another breathtaking day on the Salish Sea 🙂
